This weekend, we had my mom (Grandma) come to town, so she could hang out with us, as well as babysit while Eric and I got to enjoy TWO nights out of the house with friends. Both kids looked forward all week to Grandma's visit, especially Jackson! We heard ALL about Grandma the entire week leading up to her visit.
Saturday night, Eric and I got to meet up with friends at one of our former haunts of our younger and hipper Raleigh days, Five Star. After multiple sake bombs and a fabulous dinner, we ventured on to see Wolf Parade at Lincoln Theater, which was fantastic! We had seen them in Montreal in 2006, and it was very cool to catch them again. We made a phone call to check in at home before the show, and this is how the conversation went:
Q: Jackson, where are Mom & Dad?
A: At a concert.
Q: What are they doing?
A: Rocking out!
Sunday, after very little sleep on my part, I was fortunate enough to be able to relax at home with Ella, while Eric took Jackson to a birthday party at Playnation, one of his favorite play places. Jackson had so much fun per usual (this kid lives for ALL things birthday), and apparently ate a full-size cupcake in two bites. According to the birthday boy's dad, Jackson may just have a future in competitive eating. Maybe we'll see him on Coney Island one day, downing hot dogs (or cupcakes, if it's up to him) like it's his job.
Later on that night, Jackson and Eric met up with some of our neighbor friends so the boys (and girl)could check out Megamind, the new Pixar movie, at Southpoint. Jackson had only been to one other movie in the past in the theatre, Toy Story 3, this past summer. He made it about one hour, then took cues from other kids who were standing up and roaming the aisles. He was kind of over it at that point, so we left! We were a little skeptical of how he would do last night, but decided that we'll never know exactly when he is capable of doing these things if we don't try. Last night, things were different. A lot has changed in a few short months! Jackson sat through the entire movie with no problems, which may not sound like a big deal, but if you know my Action Jackson, you can probably understand why I think it is. ;) He had a blast with his friends- eating copious amounts of snacks and hitting the video games in the lobby afterward were huge plusses for all of the kids (and probably the dads, too!).
Anyway, those were just a couple of highlights from our family weekend. I'm tired from just thinking about it!

Before our Saturday night out!
