This morning, we visited a fire station with some friends through our local mom's group. It was freezing outside (almost literally :)), but Jackson quickly warmed up to being with his friends, checking out all the firetrucks, and to running wild in the open garage. Not even tripping while running at full tilt over a fire hose (!) slowed him down. Especially of interest were the gigantic wheels on the trucks, and opening and looking into the side doors of the truck, which revealed the hoses and other gear. He wasn't a huge fan of climbing into the riding areas of the trucks like many of the other kids, but eventually did want to just peek in for one quick look (I think this was mainly because best buddy Scott was in there). Jackson adores anything with wheels and an engine. He points and babbles excitedly or makes vroom vroom noises at vehicles in books, in magazines, in real life, on TV, on the computer screen, you name it, so this outing was a lot of fun for him! Pictures to follow- I didn't take my camera, but my friend Suzanne got some cute ones!
I was a little concerned that he wouldn't enjoy himself, as we were coming off the worst night of sleep that we have ever had in this house, hands down. Yes, this even includes the newborn period (I think. That period's admittedly somewhat of a blur ;))! He woke up 3 times, and his normal 12 hour period of uninterrupted sleep was pared down to a total of 6.5 hours of fairly fractured sleep after all the wakeups, crying, rocking, etc. We have no idea what was wrong- but can only suspect that Jackson's 2 year molars are to blame. Fun times! Fortunately, he woke up in a fabulous mood this morning, and is back to eating really well. He even enjoyed a playdate with 3 neighbor friends after the fire station at our house. He was down for the count instantly at naptime. Let's hope this magic continues on into the evening, as Dad will be on his own while Mom's out for Bunco tonight!
