We knew that the first indication that Jackson had reached or surpassed the 3 foot mark would be when he really clocked his head on our countertop. Allow me to explain! We have an overhang of our kitchen countertop that extends out about a foot into our dining room area. Underneath this overhang is a prime runway for Jackson. It's exactly 3 feet from the floor.
After a long period of near misses and an ever increasing number of slight bonks while running under the overhang, today he finally hit the countertop rather hard! A toddler's head is no match for granite, and much comforting, hugs, and kisses were required for all of the two minutes Jackson was upset. Seems like the whole thing scared Mama much more than it hurt him!
At his 18 month appt last month, Jackson was 35.5 inches (>97th percentile), and 32 lbs, 4 oz (>97th percentile). He's now back up to over 34 lbs after recovering from a cold. He continues to be a big boy. We don't know if he'll continue to grow in this way, or if he'll eventually slow down and even out. He's got quite a mix of both very tall and very short people of all shapes and sizes in his gene pool, so it's anyone's guess. You never know; this could all mean a football scholarship to college, special orders of tennis shoes beginning in the teen years, not being able to sneak into movies or amusement parks with a child's admission (don't get excited, I'm kidding about that one), or prom shopping at the local Casual Male XL Big and Tall Shop. Or, it could mean none of these. Only time will tell!
